November is here!  Next week we will be giving the District-mandated Benchmarks.  We will be giving Writing on Monday, Reading on Tuesday, and Math on Thursday.  (Early Dismissal on Wednesday).  And then the following week is 2 days as we will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday!  This week's learning includes:

Math- We move into Unit 4 this week which starts with decimals. Students will be looking at place value with decimals, comparing and ordering decimals, estimating with decimals, and basic decimal concepts. There will be a quiz on comparing and ordering decimals during the week.

Reading- In reading we are moving on to making inferences. Good readers make inferences while they read by using what the author has told them to make predictions and draw conclusions. When we make an inference, we can’t point to one specific spot in the text, the inference is implied  based on knowledge from our schema and the text. Students will participate in fun activities throughout the week to gain a better understanding of how to make good inferences. There will be a quiz on inferences as well.

Writing- We continue to learn about expository text and the structure and organization of this type of text. This week we focus on the importance of having distinct main ideas so that our details have a specific place to go. We’ll also learn how to write comparison pieces.

Science- In Science we continue learning about ecosystems with a focus on consumers, producers, and the relationship between an ecosystem and its community, population, and the habitats found there.

Social Studies- We will learn about and illustrate how a bill becomes a law. Groups will also present their 3 Branches of Government poster and will receive a social studies grade as well as listening/speaking grade. Students will also learn the qualifications for becoming President of the U.S.
