Thanks to all of the parents and students who participated and assisted with the International Festival on Friday--incredible as always!  Thanks to Hunter's mom who came to speak to us about her home state, Louisiana, and the information she shared specific to this state.

Another thank you to Lauren's mom, who will go with us to see "Meet the US Presidents" at the Interactive Theater on Thursday.  We have been talking and learning about the role of the President, along with some Presidential Fun Facts, as part of our current Planner, The Deciders.  We will leave Thursday (25th) about 8:45 and return at 11:15--remember students MUST wear their Red Roberts shirt on all field trips.

This week's learning includes:

Math- We will continue with Unit 3 and finish the lessons this week. The Unit 3 test will be given during the week of October 29th. This week we will look at solving number stories, true and false number sentences, using parentheses in number sentences, and open sentences.

Reading- We continue working with main idea and details this week. Main idea and details is a big skill and can take some time for students to truly grasp the difference between a main idea, details, and a summary.

Writing- We are learning how/when to use paragraphs in narrative writing and the students are also writing a full prompt with revising and editing passages. It’s basically like a practice version of the STAAR narrative writing. This will show us what they are succeeding with, areas they still need more work, and how they do with the stamina of the prompt. Our grammar focus is capitalization and comma usage.

Science- In science this week we will look at chemical and physical changes in regards to matter.

Social Studies- We continue moving along through our government planner. This week we take a closer look at our state and local government and their roles and responsibilities. This section comes from the textbook. We will also discuss what qualities make an effective leader. We are also researching national symbols and each student will use an iPad to create an ebook. We are very excited to explore this. The project will be completed sometime during the six week planner.

Have a great week!
