This week will culminate with the Roberts International Festival on Friday; a wonderful and cultural experience celebrating our school's diversity. The traditional parade of 2nd and 4th grade students will kick off the event about 8:15 on Friday morning as we circle the track. Our country is Australia and we will be making a banner and having a brief discussion on Australia during the week. If your child has khaki shorts and/or shirt, they need to wear it as a tribute to that famous Australian, Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, as we march around the track. Friday is an early dismissal!
This week's learning:
*Writing: generating ideas from emotions we have experienced (hope, worry, sad, embarrassed, etc.) with reminders of using paragraphs, writing a strong lead, and writing from a small moment.
*Math: Beginning chapter 3 in Everydaymath--multiplication. Again, I must stress the importance of knowing the multiplication facts. We will have another test on facts this week.
*Reading: Using graphic organizers to identify the main idea and supporting details. We are also beginning Literature Circles this week. I will be reading Hank the Cow Dog to the class and modelling the different roles and responsiblities students will have as they begin their groups very soon.
*Social Studies: Regions of Texas. Thanks to the parents who have agreed to go on our Austin Field Trip in March. Much more information will come later.
*Science: Alternative forms of energy; particularly, solar, wind, and nuclear.
Have a great week!
