Welcome to October and a bit cooler weather!
This week:
Reading: Continue to identify main (central) idea and locate supporting details using our Reading Street text and other passages. Worldly Wise words from Lesson 7 will be assigned.
Language Arts: Spelling pre-test on Monday morning and completing the accompanying activities of choice equalling 20 points by Friday; a focus on dialogue and the proper usage of quotation marks in writing.
Writing: We have begun our second narrative and are in the process of "zooming in" on the small moment and writing with a writer's eye. We will use mentor texts to assist students with improving their writing by emulating authors.
Math: completion and review of chapter 2 and a test Thursday. Please remind your child to continue to practice their multiplication facts.
Science: We learned about the Pacific Garbage Patch on Friday and will move into trash and garbage this week as we continue to "Go Green" with our IB Planner. We will address such issues about how much garbage we create, where it goes, and what we can do about it.
Social Studies: Complete and review chapter 1 and a test. Due to the large amount of geographical terminology, students will be given an open-book test.

Thanks to the students who ordered books this time! $171 worth of books were ordered and should arrive later this week.
International Fest is coming up on October 14. Our class will be representing Australia in the traditional 2nd-4th grade kick-off parade on that Friday morning. We will make a banner in class and dress in Australia-themed attire (maybe a salute to the Crocodile Hunter with our khakis?). More details to come in the very near future...Have a great week!
