Please look for some important information from Luis's mom (Ivelisse Torres, who has graciously volunteered to be the room parent) in the Tuesday folder.
This week we will be working on:
Reading- In reading we are moving on to how authors use similes and metaphors in books and how to determine their meanings. The students will read and learn about a variety of ways similes and metaphors are used and even create their own Wanted poster using both similes and metaphors.
Math- We are continuing with Unit 5. Next week our focus is estimating sums and products and learning how to use a multiplication method called partial products. By the end of the week students will be quizzed on multiplying three digits by one digit. It’s so important that you are practicing multiplication facts at home with your child if they are still not proficient.
Writing- We have worked so hard on writing solid expository pieces with distinct main ideas and fully elaborated details. Our focus next week is writing strong introductions and conclusions. Our grammar focus is pronouns.
Science- The students will be learning the difference between food chains and food webs. We will also look at the flow of energy through a food web and predict how changes in the ecosystem affect the food web, (such as a fire in a forest). Students will have the chance to illustrate and label their own food chain or web for a specific ecosystem.
Social Studies-We are moving through chapter 3 and learning about how exploration first came to the Americas. We will be identifying which Native American groups lived in specific regions.
Explorers- We are working steadily through the IIM Explorer project. Students have finished writing notefacts and are in the process of organizing them under each inquiry. They will begin writing their paper when they have finished organizing their notefacts correctly.
