Hi Parents,

Please check the Tuesday folder for information about our Writing Benchmark we did this past Friday.

This week we will:

Math- We will wrap up Unit 6 in math this week. Our focus on Monday will be coordinate grids for maps and showing students how to find ordered pairs. We will also review partial quotients in division with 2 digit divisors. Please make sure your child is practicing division problems at home if they still don’t feel completely comfortable with division. The Unit 6 review will be on Wednesday and the test will be on Thursday.

Writing- We continue writing to a variety of prompts, both narrative and expository. We are conferencing regularly with students to ensure they are able to take a prompt from a plan and develop it into a well written piece.  Our grammar focus is a catch up on adverbs and lessons on conjunctions.

Reading- We will continue to fine tune our summarizing skills as well as move into author’s purpose. We will look at the three main purposes an author has (persuade, inform, entertain). We continue with our novel read alouds, book clubs, and Daily 5 rotations.

Science- We will finish any lessons from this week regarding water pollution and we will also look at trash pollution – where does the trash go? Which materials are biodegradable? How long will it take certain types of trash to decompose?

Social Studies- We finished reading about the Battle of the Alamo and this week we will read about the victory at San Jacinto. Students will also be given vocabulary words from chapter 6 to study. There will be a vocabulary test the week of February 11th.
